Former President J.J Rawlings has revealed that he once had a very strong urge to leave the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, of which he’s the founder.
According to him, the only thing that kept him from exiting the NDC, is the plight the remaining good people in the party will face in his absence.
Addressing a gathering in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, to celebrate the 38th anniversary of the
4 June 1979 uprising; themed “Restoring the Ideals of Probity and Accountability, Ex President Rawlings noted that his departure will allow the elements of greed, avarice and dishonesty in the NDC to further deepen their claws on NDC on the party and its members.

“We’ve squandered many opportunities to clean up and to restore the June 4th principles in the party. Nobody is saying don’t make money, make it good and clean but not some of the ones that I know. It is sickening, the kind of greed, selfishness… look at where it landed us. Or is it because this government is not behaving like Kufour did in his time, so we think we’re okay?
“Let me remind people that we could not have possibly forgotten that Generals were executed in 1979 in a range and anger because of corruption. The greed, corruption and injustice of today is a thousand times more than what these Generals were executed for. And if we are unable to restore a firm measure of integrity into our dealings, then the blood of many would have been shed in vain. If we cannot get our claws off and allow for fresh leadership to emerge then we shall sink even further.”
