The DVLA want to sabotage Akufo Addo's government - Dr. Charles Wireko Brobbey

The former VRA boss, NPP member and then flagbearer of UGM party Dr. Charles Wireko Brobbey said the DVLA want to sabotage the new president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP government for bringing the towing levy as a compulsory to every vehicle on the road in Ghana.

According to him this act was passed in 2012 by the parliament of Ghana under the Former President John Mahama's administration.

He said, "on my checks to the other countries, there is nowhere in the world you can see people paying this levy as a mandatory to the people of that country for
towing fees, It's optional in all developed countries like, UK, USA, Germany and Holland etc. Why Ghana is mandatory"?

Speaking to Nhyira fm in Kumasi, he said "I am not in support of this levy because it's a sabotage to my brother President Akufo Addo's government". The act was passed in 2012 and the contract signed 2015, why 2017 they want to implement it? The then government knew if they implement that act before the elections it will go against them.

Opinion

The ministry of transport needs to be smart in a certain decisions that comes to his table.
Since He came as a minister, He always approve every bad decision that comes from the DVLA and the transport operators the (GPRTU).

First, the GPRTU came out with the transport fare increment and he approved it while the fuel prices are depreciating here in Ghana and the world market.

Now, DVLA have come out with a policy to charge "Towing Fees" for every vehicle and also to issuing a new driving licence.

The towing lavy law or act was passed in 2012 and they couldn't implement it but five years down the line, now they want implied after the elections and the change of government.

The same applies to the transport fares the GPRTU refuses to increase fares when the fuel prices in Ghana was high and low in the world market because it will not favour the past government campaign.

Is the transport minister on track? Is he working to certify the people of Ghana or the DVLA and the transport operators (GPRTU)? Is this the only option we can do as the nation? Can't the government resist himself from this rather than holding press conferences and issuing statement upon statement to justify this levy act.

My checks indicate that, The private operator the then government awarded the towing contract to will take 85% of the levy, the ministry of finance the (government) 15%, Ghana police service 5% and the remaining 5% goes to DVLA.

This should be the private operators to elucidate the issue to Ghanaians not the transport ministry. Because they are the beneficiary, not the state.

According to the DVLA 2.5 million people have a registered vehicles, what are figures of the broken cars on the road annually? I am not against of private businesses but this contract is weird.

I wish NPP government and their communicators should stay away from defending this towing levy act, this has given a vacuum for the opposition party NDC who passed this law to shift the blame on the ruling government.
President Akufo Addo should open his eyes.
