The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Koku Anyidoho, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their
deliberate attempt to create the impression that the Electoral Commission (EC) always needs to consult political parties before it
takes decisions.
Speaking to Atinka News after the launch of the EC’s 5- year Strategic
Plan in Accra Tuesday, the Deputy NDC scribe lambasted the NPP for
failing to attend the event and said the opposition party seeks to
create a negative
impression about the Electoral Commission.
According to him, the NPP, which has strongly castigated the EC over its new logo, should have been present at the launch to be educated about
the on-going structural reformation of the EC which is part of the 5-
year strategic plan.
Koku Anyidoho strongly sided with EC claiming NPP would have known that
the new logo was just a small part of the whole structural
re-organization of the EC if they had attended the event.
He called on the largest opposition party to desist from deceiving Ghanaians about every administrative decision or action by the EC as it
does not augur well for the electoral process .
Meanwhile. the First Vice Chair of the Convention People Party (CPP) Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim was of the view that the new logo would wouldn’t
have been a major issue if the EC had consulted other political parties.
According to her, if the EC seeks to be independent as they claim then
they should work with recommendations by the Committee of five set by
the EC .
According to him, the NPP always want to create the impression that the
EC needs the permission from the political parties to undertake every
project .
