Unfortunately, the incumbent party led by President John Dramani Mahama lost to the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo now the president of the republic of Ghana.
A month a go, the Minister of Transport under the Akufo Addo's government Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah told the public that, the government will implement the new towing levy which the past government signed to all the vehicles including the motorcycles will pay a towing levy.
Cost Sharing the Money
The private investor will take 80%, the Ghana Police Sevice 5%, Drivers Vehicles License Authority (DVLA) 10% and the remaining 5% goes to
the Ministry of Finance.
Opinions
Many Ghanaians stakeholders are complaining about this towing levy implementation, some are saying the levy fee is high and need to be reduced, others are saying it shouldn't be mandatory but optional.
One former DCE for Obuasi Kumasi Zuba says he welcomes the decision of the towing levy and he will pay for all his vehicles but if his vehicle shot fuel on the road and the towing service company refuses to tow his car for more than two hours (2hrs) he will test the law in court, he will sue the government and service company. Speaking to Nhyira FM in Kumasi, He agrees it was the NDC government policy and signed this contract or the agreement but they will not take the mistakes in the contract like what some of the NPP communication members are shifting it to the blame on NDC.
He said there are many projects the former president John Dramani Mahama started but during commissioning the sitting president Nana Akufo Addo did not recognize him neither mention his name when commissioning the project so if the NDC has implemented the policy which is worse, then the NPP government should carry the implications and they shouldn't mention NDC to this matter.
Agitations
Many are showing their anger to this policy, saying, they will demonstrate against the sitting government even some members of the NPP party, the transport owners, the opposition parties and some concern Ghanaians are all showing their disagreement with the government to demonstrate against this policy.
Are some people in the government have a percentage in this deal?
Advice
Governance is to serve the people in the country, not the people in the country to serve the leaders. Every leader took an oath to serve the country and the people but they don't take an oath for the citizens to serve them. A leader brings a policy to benefit the people in the country but not for the citizens to suffer.
The Taxis, Trotro, Motorcycles and the small vehicles can be push from the roads when it developed a fault on the road with the help of the passengers or by the helping hands on the street.
If a government is bringing a policy and its citizens are opposing and agitating on the policy, it tells you the people you promise to bring better living to their lives are not certified and they can make your governance and the policy you are implementing worse.
Ghanaian electorates factor on policies that will increase their sales and profit but not the policy they will incur losses. Can't a government make it optional and enforce the road safety laws which did not allow the faulty vehicle not to pack or stand on the road for more than 15 minutes, if the vehicle joined and pays the levy fees, it's a mandatory for towing service company to care for the vehicle and if you are not paid to join, when your vehicle break, it will not stand on the road for more than 15 minutes and after the 15 minutes the owner will pay Ghc100 for towing and a rent fees.
People are getting angry about this government on certain decisions which were introduced by the past government and are now implementing by this current government. This government is talking about if they abrogate this contract the state will face judgement which we do not agree because the laws of the country are made to benefit, protect and defend the country Ghana but not to weakening the businesses of the state.
The president and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should sit up and listen to Ghanaians, what took the party to the opposition 2008 has started now.
