The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo would not have survived if he had not accepted the Supreme Court verdict on the election petition.
Kofi Adams asserted that, the security agencies would have matched he [Nana] and his militants boot-for-boot if he had attempted to plunge this country into
chaos.
The Supreme Court on 29th August, 2013, delivered a 5-4 majority judgement that brought an end to the election petition by the late former National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey and vice presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia challenging the 2012 presidential results.
After proceedings that lasted for eight months of ‘high drama’, the Court rejected the petition and declared President John Dramani Mahama the legitimate winner of the 2012 elections.
Akufo-Addo who raised concerns about the ruling, accepted the verdict. His action was applauded by many including his critics in the NDC who believed he did Ghana a great favour by accepting the results.
But Kofi Adams on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday said Nana Akufo-Addo had no other choice than accepting the verdict.
He noted that, the security was red-alert to overpower any violent group after the Court delivered the verdict.
“Nana Addo shouldn’t dream he did Ghanaians a favour because he would have not survived. The security agencies were more than ready to protect this country” he stressed.
Reacting to Akufo-Addo’s claim that the NDC is tagging him for violent propaganda purposes, Kofi Adams said he [Nana] must blame himself.
He said they are not tagging him violent rather Akufo-Addo’s actions and utterances give more credence to his “violent nature”.
Citing the infamous ‘All die be die’ mantra to buttress his point, the NDC National Organizer urged the NPP leader to work on his character to correct the perception in peoples’ minds of him being a violent person.
“As he [Nana] mark his birthday, we wish he lives long to witness the exploits of President John Mahama” Kofi Adams added.
