Kumasi Tafo unrest: Chief Imam, arrived in Kumasi to hold peace talks

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu, has arrived in Kumasi to hold peace talks over an impasse that rocked the Tafo Community in Kumasi this week.

Sheikh Sharabutu is scheduled to meet the leadership of the


Zongo community after Friday’s Jummah prayers at the Kumasi Central mosque.
Last Wednesday, Muslim youth in Tafo Zongo were involved in a clash with traditional authorities disagreement on cemetery lands in the community.

The riot claimed one life while a mosque, six churches and other valuable properties while about 45 persons have so far been arrested in connection to the violence. According to Police sources, the suspects will be screened to determine the levels of their involvement in the violence.
“He deems it a personal responsibility to come down here to touch base with the traditional authorities and also the Muslim community. He will also give them some sermon and advice as to how we can handle this,” spokesperson for National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu mentioned.
A dusk to dawn curfew has since been imposed on the Tafo community as the Ashanti Regional Security Council works on resolving the confusion.
